Seasoned Executive and Entrepreneur Brings Decades of Power and Energy Industry Expertise to Help Accelerate Market Momentum for Groundbreaking Software Defined Power Solutions

Milpitas, Calif. – April 4, 2019 – Virtual Power Systems (VPS), creator of Software Defined Power® (SDP), today announced that William J. Clough, chairman, president and CEO of CUI Global (Nasdaq: CUI), has joined the VPS Board of Directors. In this position, Clough will help guide VPS on its fast-growth trajectory of setting new standards in power infrastructure efficiency and economics.

“VPS is very fortunate to have an executive of Bill’s caliber and proven track record of implementing growth strategies assist us in gaining rapid market adoption of our category-leading Software Defined Power solutions,” said Steve Houck, CEO of Virtual Power Systems. “His leadership in vital power and energy industry segments will prove invaluable as we continue to build a robust ecosystem of partners and transform data center power for the largest data centers worldwide.”

At CUI Global, Clough leads the company’s power and energy business segments, including the development of next-generation power technologies with VPS to validate VPS’ disruptive Intelligent Control of Energy® (ICE) technology. CUI Global led Virtual Power Systems’ recent $17M growth capital financing round. In his role as CUI Global’s CEO, Clough was instrumental in establishing the organization’s energy division, including the formation of its energy operations in North America. He also guided the company to its largest energy contract award to date while concurrently managing CUI Global’s power and electro-mechanical business to higher-than-industry-average growth rates.

“I am honored to join the VPS board and contribute my experience and perspective at this exciting time of accelerated business growth and SDP innovation,” said Clough. “We share a belief that technology innovation and software intelligence are imperatives for architecting resilient, distributed data center power infrastructures, and I look forward to working with Steve and the entire VPS leadership team to deliver upon the tremendous opportunity ahead.”

Prior to joining CUI Global in 2006, Clough founded and operated a multi-state law firm for 14 years and also was a law enforcement officer and U.S. Federal Air Marshal. He holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of California Hastings College of Law.

As the pioneer in virtualizing power, VPS enables energy to be reallocated on-demand to data center racks, nodes, workloads or circuits using AI and machine learning to predict and respond to changes in power capacity and demand. SDP-enabled power components, including uninterruptible power systems, generators, power distribution units, battery backups and power supply units, can react quickly and effectively to sudden shifts and surges in power usage patterns.
